The Forest of My Mind

Getting lost
In a forest of thought
On trails
Of cottontails
Paths weaving and winding
Through contemplation
An adaptation
To a world
I don’t understand
A world that fades,
Drifts away
Behind trees of thought
Where there is life and magic
And the tragic fabric
Of the world
Outside my mind
Just dissolves
The woods of my mind
Demystified
Revealing crowns
Of the greatest trees
Inlayed with gems
That glimmer
In new light
Which breaks
Through the trees
As the fog of the world
Disappears
There is peace in the forest
Where I can be with the trees
Just still enough
To feel them breathe
To feel the movement
Of the wind in the leaves
The calming sound
Of my thoughts and beliefs
In the breeze
The movement takes me down winding paths
In the landscape of my mind
One so designed
To remove my presence
From humankind
So I can wander away
From humans who are blind
Misaligned
Trying to clear-cut the forest of their own minds
And mine.
But this is my sacred land
The forest of my thoughts
My land to roam
My home
My comfort zone
The place where I can be alone
On my own to ponder
Questions of life
Questions of meaning
Questions of philosophy and religion
A place where the dark is not threatening
And unknowns are welcome
A place where the world is unwelcome
And the knowns of the world are challenged
But in a different way -
With a peace from the breeze
In the trees of my thoughts.
I love getting lost
In the forest of my thoughts
Following the trails
Of cottontails
Paths weaving and winding
Through deep contemplation
This is my adaptation
To a world
I don’t understand.
